Protecting children fleeing the war against Ukraine: extracts from the debate

On 5 April MEPs discussed with Council and European Commission representatives what the EU can do to protect children fleeing war in Ukraine, in particular from trafficking and exploitation. Following the activation on 3 March of the temporary protection status for refugees from Ukraine -which gives them temporary residence rights and access to education and the labour market- the Commission and the French Presidency of the Council are working on a 10-point plan to enhance the European common response.

MEPs hold a minute of silence in memory of victims of war in Ukraine

President Roberta Metsola updated the European Parliament on her visit to Ukraine and appealed for more logistical, humanitarian and military support, at the opening of the plenary session on 4 April. She also led MEPs in a minute of silence in memory of the victims of Bucha, Irpin and all victims of war, terror and violence.

Russian invasion of Ukraine: 'We will not look away'

The European Parliament has condemned in the strongest possible terms Russia's invasion of Ukraine. In an emergency sitting on 1 March, MEPs called on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops and restore the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. Members expressed their solidarity with Ukrainians and called for more support for the vulnerable. Parliament called for an even tougher EU response to the regime of Vladimir Putin.
